Worldliness: Passport to Hell

Main text: 1 John 2: 15- 17
Introduction
 According to dictionary definition of “worldly “, it means relating to, or devoted to, the temporal world.  Worldliness, then, is the condition of being concerned with worldly affairs, especially to the neglect of spiritual things. 1 John 2: 15.
  •       Worldliness is friendship with the world. James warns us against been friends with the world because friendship with the world is enmity with God.  James 4: 4
  •        Worldliness also means carnality and sensuality. It means living in the flesh and by the dictates of the flesh. Galatians 5: 17- 19
  •    Worldliness means living by the principles and practices of the world. Our standard is the word of God and not the world. 1 Corinthians 3: 1- 3
Discussion
1.       What are the Marks of worldliness according to 1 John 2: 15-17?

a.       What is the lust of the flesh
This talks about social and sexual sin Galatia 5: 17- 19.This sin common the young.
                                                               i.      List the social sins and explain
                                                             ii.      List the sexual sins and explain.

b.      What is the lust of the eye
This talks about materialism and covetousness. Col. 3: 5- 7; Eph. 5: 5- 7. This sin is common among the middle age.
                                                               i.      Describe covetousness
                                                             ii.       How does prosperity message promote covetousness in Christendom and what can we do?
                                                            iii.      Is it wrong for a Christian to possess good things?

c.       What is the pride of life
A feeling of accomplishment, position or power and the pride and foolishness that comes with it. 1 Tim. 6: 17- 19; 1 Corinth 1: 26-31. This sin is common among the old or aged.

2.       Walking in the spirit is the solution to worldliness. Galatians. 5: 14
a.       What does it mean to walk in the spirit?
b.      How can we walk in the spirit? List them from the scriptures below
